Just fired up the old Kindle DX Graphite…
Just fired up the old Kindle DX Graphite, battery had run down as expected, so the clock is wrong. Seems like the online service is down, even though the 3G/EDGE connectivity is working. Is this normal?

Workarounds to set the date and time? Not rooted/jailbroken or anything, never tried that.

What seems to work the best is to leave 3G on and connected to a charger. It will eventually set the time using the 3G connection, but might take quite a few days.

The wrong clock time keeps it from communicating with amazon.

If you haven't used it for over 3 years or so, it needs a firmware update that you need to download from amazon.

I am in the US, have a DXG, and it connects to the amazon store over 3G just fine.

3G is slowing becoming less available all over the US. Isn't that what JSWolf meant? I see no mention of the Amazon store...

Have you run the services update that was released a few years ago? It won't change the 2.5.8 firmware number, but if not installed, will affect connectivity.

For years now, people have been posting that their DX[G] can't connect, they get replies that 3G has gone away, then it eventually turns out that the DX had incorrect time and/or lacked the security update.

3G is gone in some areas and someday it will be gone everywhere, but meanwhile it is not helpful to make false statements.

My Kindle 1 would reset the time as soon as it connected to cell service (though it is not able to connect to Amazon any more). But I haven’t turned it on for a few months, it may have changed.

I think they all do that when the kindle's idea of what time it is is reasonably close to what the cell service says. Had your kindle 1 ever lost time completely and thought it was 1970?
