Strange kind of reader behaviour

I do not know if this a problem of my specific reader or it stems from the firmware, but I have noticed the problem in my last 2 books. Whenever there is an italic word followed by something else they are “tied” together. I am sure that there is a technical term for this, but I wonders what’ s the reason. It cannot be the books, 2 different ones, from different publishers. At least I hope. Maybe the ePub reader ?
I do not remember having seen it previously.

Have you tried a different font? I’m not sure which you’re using or if it’s one included on the kobo but that’d be my first step in fixing this.

I have tried all fonts, thanks. Whilst I was answering you I had a doubt, and went to look where I took the books from and I found out I had bought them from Kobo, but passed them through Calibre.
The original ePub does not have the problem, so I think it is a Calibre problem; I will go on that forum.

Are you doing kepub or Epub? If kepub what version of the driver are you using?

If you were using the KoboTouchExtended driver, there was an issue which should now be corrected. Alternatively, you can try converting the book with kepubify.

Thanks for the help, going to the Calibre forum helped solve the issue, apparently it was a problem in previous versions which has been solved. Just using the current Calibre version solved the issue.
Thanks everybody, case closed.

Huh. I have this problem with a series of 21 books which I purchased from Kobo and download directly to my device, so I’ve always assumed the problem started with Kobo. It’s irritating, but not worth the nuisance of running them through Calibre and sideloading.

I've seen it in enough different places to just think it is bad editing. I think that every time I looked at the epub version, the space was missing.
