Cannot install Calibre 4.18.0

I have moved to a new desktop. I downloaded Calibre 4.18.0 but when I try to install it, installation stalls and it tells me that I have insufficient access and I should log in as administrator. I am the only user/administrator and I checked with my Windows 10 also. What am I missing here?

For the moment I have been able to download and install the 64Bit version.

I have been using Calibre for Windows 10 for years now and I would like to continue to do so.

Pls help.

Many thanks

Since the 64-bit version installed, continue using that. There's no reason to use the 32-bit version.

As Jon asked, if your machine is capable of running 64 bit code, why not use calibre x64? Other than being able to handle processes that need more memory, the differences are pretty much non-existent.

As for installing the 32 bit version, it sounds as if you are going to need to use Run as Administrator. I seem to remember that if you use Run as Administrator on a command prompt (search for cmd.exe, click on Run as Administrator), you can type the name of a .msi installer and the install will inherit the privileges.

YOu can also "run as admin" if you right click on the msi file. It should be there as one of the options to select.

???? I have never seen a Run as Administrator option right-clicking on an .msi file unless someone has added "runas" under the shell options for the Msi.Package key in HKCR. Actually, that kludge gives Install as Administrator. The lines in the code block can be saved into a file called whatever.reg and will give you that right-click option.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Msi.Package\shell\RunAs]
@="Install as &Administrator"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Msi.Package\shell\RunAs\command]
@="msiexec /i “%1”"

It's also present on 32bit MSI files. Since I switched to Win 7 I have never needed to run an MSI (or anything else) as an Admin. And, I've never added a 'runas' entry to MSI Packages or anything else.

Not there on my W10 systems either. Now, my logon HAS admin rights, so it may be for those with only basic user rights

Mine too - are your Win 10's upgrades from 7 or manufacturer install. Mine is a vanilla install onto a freshly formatted disk -- by me. Maybe something I did when I was customising windows 10 put it there - but it wasn't via a manual regedit.

All of my Windows 10 installs are upgrades. two are from Windows 8.1 and one is from a fresh Windows 7 install. All work and all can run the latest Calibre.
