Replacement Device Has Dead Pixel?

So, I finally received a replacement Libra after four weeks from sending in my original one (bezel was pulling away from the screen).

Now, after receiving my replacement yesterday, I'm faced with what appears to have a dead pixel problem (single pin-prick sized light shining through the screen). I noticed it when reading at night last night. It doesn't show when the light is off either.

Is there anyway to fix this without going through the replacement process again? I tried a factory reset with no luck.

I've reached out to Kobo through their Twitter Help page.

Technically, it's not a dead pixel. It's dust caught beneath the diffusion layer that facilitates the sidelighting resulting in a bright spot. But it's a very common defect in Kobos; I've returned more than one unit because of it. I'd ask for a replacement.

If it’s just dust, does it cause damage to the screen?

I’m still waiting for Kobo to respond on their Twitter help page. It’s been a couple hours. I’m growing wary of going through this again.

Thanks!

I've never seen any evidence that it damages the screen, but I find those bright spots very distracting.

They can also be damage to the light guide. Happily, I wouldn't call it "very common" now. With the Glo and other early devices, it was, but, it hardly seems to be mentioned now.

@astoriedsoul: It is a defect and you should replace it if it is bugging you in any way.

I have just purchased a Libra with this issue. Did you resolve or replace?

As already stated, just return it. It is a well know manufacturing defect and the companies will not argue about it.
