Can't get a new version to open in Calibre

I'm trying to convert a kpf file (never, edited), and every time I open the file from my email, Calibre will only open an older version of the same file. I can't seem to figure out how to get it to open that specific version... and it's driving me a bit crazy.

All help will be mega appreciated!

You need to change the default calibre action on adding a duplicate book. See Preferences/Adding books/Adding Actions. Change the Auto-merge setting to 'overwrite existing duplicate formats'.
