[Kindle] Book keeps disappearing
Hello everyone,

I apologize if this is a duplicate, but I couldn't find anything directly related. I recently have been trying to add a book from Calibre to my Kindle, and it will say on Calibre that it is on the device. When I disconnect, the book is there for a few seconds, and then disappears. It can't be searched, it is not being indexed... it's just gone.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

If a book disappears from the kindle it is because the indexer choked on it, there can be no other reason. The indexer is what builds the list of books. I suggest you convert it to TXT and then that to MOBI that will likely fix whatever the indexer is choking on.

Thanks for the advice! I did as you suggested, but it still disappeared. Not sure if it's just a lost cause at this point

Another possibility is that you already have a book on your device that has the same Amazon identifier (CDETYPE & ASIN pair). Those are supposed to be unique and if they are not then strange things can happen.

If you convert the book to MOBI or AZW3 with the option to "Enable sharing of book content..." this will not add CDETYPE/ASIN to the file. Try doing that and sending the resulting file to your device.

I've found reboots to helpful when this happens. Press and hold the power button for a full 30 seconds, then set the Kindle down and wait as it reboots. In my experience, this fixes a multitude of odd behavior.

Unfortunately I did try this and no change! I have a feeling it's the book file itself, so I'll try what the person above said as well.
