My First Post

Hello,
My name is David and this is my very first post. I just purchased my first eReader (an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite), and am looking forward to learning more about the world of eBooks in this forum.

Okay, now I would like to get posting and learning, but am a little unclear on the process...
1. When my Kindle arrives, the first thing I would like to do is configure it to its base (dumb) settings. How do I do that? So this question would go into which forum? Or should I start my own thread - and how do I do that?
2. I would like to first learn which Windows 7 compatible software is best for producing my own eBooks and then converting eReader formats (like from .pdf to .azw cleanly without use of Amazon's email service). In general, I do not want to rely on using Amazon for the purposes of downloading, converting and reading my eBooks on my Kindle. So same question here - what is the best forum to post this question to or should I start my own thread and how and where do I do that?

P.S. One of the first things I would like to do is locate a good collection of Bibles, starting with the Authorized King James Version and then others like the paraphrased "Living Bible" and more. Where would I go to explore this?

1. What do you mean by base settings? People have different preferences, so the settings can be different too. The Kindle questions should be asked in the Kindle subforum:

2. I don't exactly understand what you mean by "producing your own ebooks". Producing from what? As in you write them yourself? If you mean buying or downloading them from somewhere and convert to a Kindle-compatible format, then the answer is Calibre: https://calibre-ebook.com/

Now if you meant something else by "producing your own ebooks", like creating them from scratch, then there are other tools for that. Calibre is a library manager and a converter.

Note that PDF is absolutely the worst format to convert to another format. The result is often a mess. Whatever you do, try not to convert your PDF files to anything else. PDF is not really an ebook format at all and is not meant for converting.

3. As to bibles, I'm afraid I have no idea. You could ask in the Reading Recommendations subforum:

So yes, (Re: #2) I am actually interested in downloading and converting ebooks from a variety of formats into the native Kindle format for maximum compatibility /and also/ I would like to learn more about which (Windows 7 compatible) software titles are favored for an author to publish their own works into a variety of eBook formats.
