Find collection from kobo aura H2O edition 2 into calibre
Hello, I could't find into calibre the possibility to synchronize collections created into my kobo into calibre. Can you please help me ?

This is in my Kobo Utilities plugin. It can fetch the current collections back to a single column in calibre.

I would like to synchronize one column already created into Calibre into my kobo but I can't find how to do. Can you kelp me please ?

Reading that, and rereading the first post, I'm not sure what you want to do. From the first, I thought you were trying to fetch the collections from the device and store them somewhere in calibre. But, the second is to create the collection on the device from calibre. Or are you trying to do both? Basically copy collections from one device to the other.

In any case, the first is done using the Kobo Utilities plugin. The function is "Get Shelves from Device". With this, you select the books to fetch the collections for, or all books and select a custom column in calibre to put the collection names in (the column needs to be a text of tag-like column). Then press enter and it will read the collection from the device and update each book with the names of the collections it is in on the device.

If you want to set the collections on the device from calibre, this is done in the driver, either the built-in KoboTouch driver or the user installed KoboTouchhExtended driver. Which columns are used to set the collections is set in the configuration. How to do this is described in https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kob...nd_Collections.

If you have been doing the collection management on the device and want to copy them from the old device to the new device, you need to do both of the above in that order. When configuring the driver, you use the column from the first step. When you connect the new device, the collections will be sent to the device.

Hello Davidfor, thanks a lot for your answer and you are right I tried to either copy collections from KOBO to Calibre or from Calibre to Kobo. So it's why I posted 2 messages.

Today, I want only to copy collections from Calibre to Kobo and I follow the post what you gave me : https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kob...nd_Collections (Finally, I think so...) but I can't find my column "Envie de lire" into my Kobo. Can you please see my attachment to check if what I did is correct. I click OK after to fill it and Calibre was rebooted (Sorry but my Calibre is in french...).

Thanks a lot to continue to help me.

Google tells me that "Envie de lire" means "Want to read". Is that an actual column in your calibre library, or is it a tag? If it is a column, you need to use the lookup name for your column in the driver configuration. As @theducks said, calling a custom column "#tags" is a bad idea. It should work, but sooner or later it will cause confusion.

If "Envie de lire" is a tag in the standard calibre tags column, its lookup name is just "tags". The "#" at the start is used for custom columns.

Yes "Envie de lire" is the name of my column that I created into calibre as describe in my attachment.

I tried to put either "#tags" or "Envie de lire" into the field of "Colonnes Collections" into the configuration of the kobo (see my previous attachment).

I'm really sure that I miss something but I don't know what....

Firstly, "#tags" is the correct value to use.

But, you shouldn't be looking for "Envie de lire" on the device. The values that are in the column "Envie de lire" should be created for collections if the books are on the device. Go to the collections tab on the device, and they should be listed there.

If they aren't, it might be another option. In the preferences, go to the "Sending books to devices" (on the third row, third from the left). For Metadata management at the top, select the automatic option. This will make sure the metadata, including the collections is done each time the device is connected.

If it is still not working, I'd like to see a debug log. Run calibre in debug mode by right-clicking on the preferences and selecting the option there. Calibre will restart. Then connect the device and let the jobs run. When they are finished, close calibre and the log will be displayed. Post the log, or PM it to me. I can usually see what is wrong from it.

My understanding about synchronization of collections between my device and calibre is this : I create a dedicated column on Calibre (1st and 2nd attachment), I fill it (see my new attachment), if the name of the column into Calibre is not present into my device so Calibre create it, after, I open my device, I go to collection and I see "Envie de lire" and all books where I put "X" on the column of Calibre.
Here is my understanding and maybe I'm wrong...

I change also in automatic mode but no change.

Please let me if my understanding is ok before to send you the log.

The column is used to create collections. The names of the collections will be the values in the column. That means that if the books you have "X" as the value in the "Envie de lire" column are on the device, there should be a collection called "X" on the device with those books in it.

I put "A lire" as a value into a column named "Collections". I changed into my preference and in configuration. Please see my attachments. But no "A lire" collection into my kobo. I post you in MP my log.

Sorry, but you keep misunderstanding. So, I'll be explicit:
  1. In the driver configuration, but the lookup name of the column. In your case, this is "#tags".
  2. In that column, put the values you want to use as collections. This is probably "A lire". But, could be anything.
  3. Connect the device and let calibre do it's stuff. Make sure at least one book with the value "A lire" in the column is on the device.
  4. Eject the device.
  5. Open the collections list. There should be a collection called "A lire".
  6. Open the "A lire" collection. It should have the books that in calibre has the value "A lire" in the column.

Hello Davidfor, Thanks !!! now it's clear and working in this direction !!!

I tried to follow your first post to copy collection from my device to Calibre and it's not working... : in fact I do like this :
I created one new collection into my device (the second one),
I put one book in this collection into my device,
I started Calibre,
I connect my device,
I used the function "Get Shelves from Device" of Kobo utilities => I select "#tags" => OK
The result was :
- no creation of my second collection into calibre
- no change on my first collection on my device & calibre ( yes )
- removal on the only one book into my new collection into me device
- My new collection (the second one) is still alive into my device !!!

Thanks again for your help for this step !!!
