Deleted metadata.db; how to quickly restore the library?

I screwed up my library while uninstalling x86 version and installing x64 version.
The metadata.db was deleted, but the folder containing all the (many many) subfolders with the books is still there and well sorted.
What's the best way to recreate the metadata.db file (so, the Calibre library) without having to manually add all the books contained in the (many many) subfolders?

How did this happen?
Uninstalling never removes Libraries or settings.
Even when you use the Delete Library item on the Library Icon, it really just is a "Forget about it", and gives you the instruction to use the OS if you reallllly want it gone.

From a similar near-disaster I once had, my guess is they used a clean uninstaller (e.g. Revo Uninstaller, Geek Uninstaller) that removes leftover files and it nuked metadata.db.

^ THIS ^

Restore library doesn't work, since there is no old/corrupted/whatever metadata.db file. It will restore the current db (empty).

I fixed it.
I as missing the "Add books" submenu "Add books from directories, including sub-directories". I selected the main folder and Calibre re-added all books.
(actually, it's still working and I will check the outcome when I'll be back home this evening. But I'm confident)

EDIT: I confirm that everything was reloaded, and the library restored.
