Import Highlights from older books

I recently visited read.amazon.com/notebook and found that only the highlights from my most four recently read books appeared there. How do I get the highlights from previous reads to appear there?

Search for author name or a some word in the title. The recent book list scrolls, mine has 12 in it.

If you have the book on your Oasis you can export the notes from there (will be sent as email attachment to your Amazon account email address); similar if you are using one of the Kindle mobile apps (Fire, Android, iOS).

So possibly I found an answer. If I go into Goodreads all my books and highlights are there. If I then make the highlights "visible" on Goodreads, the book and the highlights then will appear on read.amazon.com/notebook.

I don't know why on earth this should be, or why this seems not to be documented.

They are all in the notebook page as well, you just have to use Search to find them. You do not need to link or use Goodreads (nor would everyone want to). The reason they show up is that by Sharing on Goodreads, they become ‘recent’ and show up in the default (Length-limited) list. I think Notebook used to list everything, but made you scroll and scroll to find the book. Search is more efficient (or at least that’s the solution that Amazon came up with).

That said, if I wanted to export the notes, they could improve the implementation. When you export from the Kindle apps, you’re given choices about the Annotation style and or format. With Notebook, its left to you to copy/paste, which is okay but it is not as convenient as having it packaged up for you.

Thank you for the reply. What you say makes sense but doesn't work for me. I can search the exact book title on the read.amazon.com/notebook site and the book doesn't appear. For example, "Your search Earning the Rockies: How Geography Shapes America's Role in the World did not match any of your annotated book titles or authors. Please try again." But if I open my Goodreads highlights for Earning the Rockies and change the setting for that book to "Visible," then refresh read.amazon, Earning the Rockies appears along with all the highlights.

Am I missing something? A setting somewhere?

Thanks again. I appreciate that you're taking time to help me.

I think it is broken - Search is not finding things for me either (but did work once).
