Converting Go (Igo, Baduk) ePub to AZW3/Mobi

I have bought the first two books in the Learn to Play Go series from gobooks.com and imported them into Calibre. It has no problem displaying the books in ePub format. When I try to convert the books into AZW3 to read on my kindle, some of the diagrams in book don't render properly. On some pages the board is shown but none of the star points (small dots on the board) or actual go stones are rendered to the screen.

I've tried to embed the fonts from the ePub using the embed fonts setting, thinking maybe the characters are part of a font similar to how some chess books are published but no dice. I decompressed the ePub to look to see if maybe there is a special file sheet that I can manually put into the converter but it didn't seem like that was the issue. I noticed that on the pages that don't render properly that there is some SVG drawing going on. Is it possible that I'm missing a flag that would pre-render the SVGs so that they display on my kindle?

Convert to mobi and SVG is rasterized automatically since MOBI does not support it. AZW3 does support SVG so it remains.

So I ran the conversation to MOBI, no dice either. Some of the diagrams are still missing parts. Re-reading the frontmatter the ePubs are interactive, if I'm reading them on a supported device it will place stones on the boards in the diagrams. Could that be causing issues?

yeah if the epub is interactive that means it uses javascript, and is essentially a program. Converting those is not going to happen.
