I want a bigger screen - Kobo or Oasis?

Hi guys. I have the PPW4 and like it. Usually buy from Amazon or use calibre to convert to my taste. But I want a better reading experience with a bigger screen. So Libra or Oasis? Facts : I'm from Brazil and kobo don't sell here anymore, I have to import. Kindle sell here from Amazon store. Importing Kobo the price is more expensive than the Kindle (in my currency). Kindle Oasis here is R$1.149.00 (≈ U$210) Libra - importing - around U$200 plus shipping costs. I really want to try the more open possibilities that kobo offers but rationally thinking the Oasis is the best choice. What is your opinions if you can buy the Oasis or Libra for the same price? Tks! Last edited by Flaviocc; 05-01-2020 at 10:44 AM. |

Better reading experience would be Kobo. Also, Kobo offers much better eBook management then Kindle. Also, integration wit Calibre is much better with Kobo.

If the Libra is more expensive, get the Oasis. I have both and they're both excellent readers. One caveat, the Oasis has a metal back, some people find it uncomfortable and slippery. That can be easily remedied with a cover or a skin, though.

That I was thinking... Oasis is cheaper and I'll have support from Amazon if needed. If I buy the Libra I will not have support here in my country... So it's a big downside.

YMMV but I found the Oasis screen to be more pleasant than the Libra

The firmware is much better for the Libra then it is for the Oasis. eBook management is much better for the Libra. Calibre integration is much better for the Libra. There's not much that the Oasis is better at.

Wolf, I was talking about hardware support if the device had some problems. That is a big deal. I really want to try the kobo... The thing is price and support if needed. Since I do not have local assistance. |

JSWolf & Flaviocc; Support includes things like warranty coverage. Even in the USA I bought a Aura One that had defective WiFi and from the initial order until I finally received a working unit was about a month. Three trips for packages across the country by UPS surface plus Kobo checking that the original unit was truly defective is SLOW. I can only imagine time and expense, along with customs hassles, for a Kobo warranty problem from Brazil. I lived overseas in Asia many years ago so can easily imagine the problems obtaining service. I have both the Oasis, G9 and G10, and the Libra and hardware wise they are very similar size and weight. To me the Oasis feels a bit more precision. Unless you are a total reader geek I find both to provide similar functionality but then I still read on occasion on a Kindle DX and a Kindle Touch in my collection so find no need at all for the fine tuning theoretically available with the Kobo. I do not use Calibre either. To me in-country hardware warranty support would be the determining factor. |

It was not a fast process, at all. I appreciated them doing it, but being without the unit for multiple weeks would be the expectation (and that's just USA/Canada - I can't even imagine the timelines to Brazil)

I own kobo libra h2o and kindle oasis. The kobo battery lasts 10x longer and more customization. Words look clearer and crisper on the oasis tho when holding side by side with the kobo and kindle has the best bookstore experience. kobo has a membership $10 a year and you earn points towards a free ebook and special VIP pricing. personally I like the kobo better.
