Can I make calibre auto tag books i add based on their path/folder name?

Hello, I'm trying to move my old library structure into calibre(from another software), which is already sorted by folder structure: books\genre\series name\filname.epub

as calibre doesn't support structure editing, is there a way to auto tag added books based on the path/folder name to save me the hassle to go thru tagging 800+ books?

filename yes; but not file path, right? that would mean I would have to rename every book to genre tags for calibre to be able to detect it, no?

Check the getfilename plugin. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=278559

It has the ability to store the file path when a book is added. That might help.

Easily. See the attached example using the "Media File Importer" plugin, which was designed to do exactly what you are asking for any file types, including images, mp3, etc. using Dynamic Variables.

Obviously, you will need to run Bulk Metadata Edit to "set covers from file", etc., as well as to Embed Metadata back into the book files themselves.
