Oasis 8 & Voyage questions
I have the Voyage reader and both generations of the 7" screen Oasis but never owned the original 6" G8 Oasis. Other than the ultra light weight, without cover, did it have any features that the Voyage did not? Reading the description it looks like the Oasis had more screen lighting LEDs, auto rotation and initially some added font choices but I believe the fonts were added to the Voyage by a firmware update. I never noted uneven screen illumination on the Voyage as a problem. The Oasis lost the auto illumination adjustment sensor the Voyage had. What have I missed, if anything, as based on the descriptions the Oasis G8 does not seem to be a true step forward? Certainly based on the buyer reviews on Amazon it was not.

I'd personally be leery of buying the original Oasis. It has an internal battery that's 1/6 the size of the batteries in other Kindles and that means it should die much faster. It may be that the Oasis battery isn't difficult to replace but I'd check that out before I'd consider getting one.
I realize there's a battery in the cover but really that's only a portable charger. It runs on the internal battery and the cover's battery just charges that. Lately there have been more complaints about the battery in the original Oasis dying than there have been about other models of the Kindle and I suspect that's why. Barry |

Barry;
Sounds like the small battery gets cycled too often if the reader is used very much, particularly if used without the battery cover that keeps the internal battery charged. After all many Lithium Ion batteries seem to have their life rated by the number of charge/discharge cycles they are subject to. I have multiple Voyages and so far see nothing that makes the Oasis G8 attractive in comparison to that one, still my favorite 6" reader. Last edited by Richwood; 04-22-2020 at 09:22 PM. |

There's only one thing the Oasis 1 is better at than the Voyage, and that's the ergonomics. It's extremely lightweight and comfortable to hold, plus it has physical buttons. That was the reason I bought and loved mine. If you're one of those who always use their reader in a cover, without exception, then there's no point for you to buy the Oasis 1. Used with the cover, it's no different than any other reader out there.
