Content Server and Marvin 3 Not Working
Marvin 3 (3.1.2 Build 34) is not finding the Calibre (4.13) OPDS Content Server.
I start the content server on Calibre on my PC (Windoze 10 latest). It shows it as running (10.0.0.8:8080, the port varies sometimes, and the IP varies depending on what IP the computer boots to, obviously). In Marvin (iPhone X, iOS 13.4.1), I click "OPDS Auto or calibre server". "Searching" appears, but never finds a content server. If I fire up my browser on the iPhone (Safari) and manually go to 10.0.0.8:8080, it shows the Calibre library. So it's not a firewall issue on my PC. In the past, updating Calibre (if required) and rebooting has fixed this. But that's not the case now. When I did connect successfully in the past, Marvin would find Calibre almost instantly. All my books (well, most of them) are DRM-free ePubs. A handful are PDFs. I'd really like to be able to connect to OPDS Auto from Marvin 3, as it's a really easy way to grab my books. Thoughts? |

If you can access it via browser, the server is working. Beyond that you will need to ask the developer of marvin for debugging help.

OK, you're going to hate me. I tried something else. UPDATE: Fixed but I'm not sure why.
I have another computer - an old laptop - laying around. I installed Calibre on the laptop, fired up the content server, and both of my iDevices saw it immediately. Older Lenovo Thinkpad, but running Windoze 10 latest, 10.0.0.16:8080, near as I can figure all network and firewall settings are the same. So I concluded not a problem with Marvin. From each PC, if I use Chrome to browse the Calibre library, I can see the library on the other PC. So, on my main PC, I uninstalled Calibre. Then I used CCleaner to look for orphaned registry values. I deleted both the Calibre program and Calibre-related firewall entries. Re-installed Calibre. When starting the content server, I got the allow firewall access message. I allowed for both private and public networks. Used Marvin on the iDevices to look, and I saw the content servers for both PCs. Solved for now, but like I said, I'm not sure why. So, related question, if this happens again: is there a way to completely uninstall Calibre? I'm guessing I didn't get everything in my uninstall, as Calibre found my old library - I would have expected it to ask where or create a new one, as it's in a non-default location. Thanks again! |
