Convert DJVU to epub?
Hi,

I have a djvu file that I would like to convert to epub. Is this doable, or should I just convert it to a pdf?

Have you looked at Calibre to see if it can convert a DJVU file??

DJVU worse

All the djvu files I've dealt with have been images not text. Several had a searchable text layer which were almost useless since they contained an rather awesome number of OCR errors. Calibre will convert a djvu with a text layer to epub but the results in my limited testing were, at best, atrocious.

DJVU: scanned material, sometimes from PDFs, with extra compression and often less quality so people didn't have to use the Acrobat reader.
Though the only stuff I have are Russian manuals. I can't imagine conversion to other than A4 PDF images.

OCR in general, on DJVU or PDF image formats, as text layer is really ONLY for search, not for actual reading!
The biggest copier of paper to PDF in the world now is Google. They are only interested in more adverts and hits on their search pages, now poisoned with PDF Google books. They should have lost the court case. It's way beyond Fair Use and more to do with selling adverts than saving an archive of the world's books.

I have managed to make the DJVU book readable on my e-reader by using k2pdfopt to reflow it to a pdf, and then using another command line tool to OCR from scratch. I guess that is the best I can get away with unless I want to rewrite the whole book. If I just could make a TOC it would be great.

k2pdfopt can make a TOC as well.
