Kindle Paperwhite won't remain in USB drive mode when connected to Linux machine
Hi.
Since doing a Debian Linux re-install on connecting my Kindle Paperwhite via USB cable it won't remain in USB drive mode. It occasionally enters USB drive mode then returns to the "YOUR LIBRARY" screen and at no point does the device appear as a drive on the OS or recognised in Calibre. Connecting the device to a Windows machine via USB where it remains in USB drive mode and is recognised as a drive which eliminates the possibility that the issue is the cable. I have installed the go-mtpfs Debian package. Anybody have any ideas on how to resolve this? Last edited by China Diapers; 04-17-2020 at 01:57 PM. |

What is the result of doing
dmesg | tail before connecting the kindle over USB and again after? Depending on how recent debian you are using, you may need to use sudo demesg | tail |

dmesg -H please, because I'm way too lazy to parse epoch ts myself
![]() I'd double check your udev rules, in case something stupid is happening on USB plug and mistakenly matches on the Kindle... EDIT: Did you also happen to upgrade your kernel? From which version to which version? There's probably VFAT shenanigans happening on Kindle w/ recent kernels if something's doing nasty things on automount... c.f., https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/1834641 & https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203973 Last edited by NiLuJe; 04-17-2020 at 02:14 PM. |
