Any tips/updates to creating a catalog for viewing large collection on Kindle?
Through various searches, particularly for when you are on the go with your Kindle, the general consensus for a non-jailbroken Kindle device with a large amount of books on it is to make a single "book" that is a catalog of all the books on the device and Calibre can make this.
I found this thread but it is nearly a decade old, even with the last post -https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118556 (one of the main stickties for starting with catalogs) The process seems straightforward enough but I have a few questions regarding it - 1. Any best practices/tips for quality of life? - I'm trying to find a fast way to browse through this massive collection, without resorting to using calibre, I treat my Kindle like I might be teleported to a desert island (with a solar powered charger I guess) so something that I can browse through quickly (versus hitting "next page" a bunch of times would be helpful) 2. Has anything changed with catalogs in the past 9 years? I can't find much about it, most of the searches I found dealt with data storage in general. 3. Will/can the catalog be made to hyperlink to the book on the device? This would obviously take the step out of having to search for the title manually in the kindle OS after locating it in the catalog. Not sure if this is possible but that would be a lovely quality of life. 4. Can the catalog have different display modes? Example, have it list the books versus displaying the images in a cover flow-like layout? The way I could see this happening is a header/footer that links to the section that is then formatted the particular way. |

I believe the developer of calibre's Catalogue creation tool has 'retired' and that Kovid maintains it on a life-support only basis. So there's not much chance of getting any enhancements made to what's already there, unless you're prepared to do it yourself.
I only use the CSV list feature, so I can't answer your specific questions. BR |

Found it pretty quick - it's not a menu item, it's a FORMAT option in the CATALOG creation (convert books). When you select CSV as the option, you get this list option. ![]() Last edited by Blakestr; 02-15-2020 at 11:21 PM. |

You can add Create Catalogue to Toolbars and menus in Preferences - I don't understand why it's in Convert - legacy reasons I guess. Because I don't use it much I have it in Favourites which is in my book list context menu
