PW2 Upgrade firmware to latest version

Hi all.

I have a Kindle PW2 that hasn't been used for a looong time.
Current firmware version is: 5.4.3.2

I took it recently and wanted to sync the books bought on my amazon account with the device.
Every time I tried this (being connected to Wi-Fi), it says that an error occured.
I did some research and figured out that this version doesn't support this feature and I have to upgrade it (???)

Then I tried to manually upgrade the firmware. I downloaded the latest version from the amazon site (https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...MQC26VQQMM8XSW)

Copied it to my device through USB, unplugged, ran the "Update Your Kindle" but after it restarts, there's still the old version.
The I tried to restart it some more, and reset and update again, but nothing changes.

I would appreciate any kind of help here.
Just want to sync my books from amazon with the device.

Please? Do I need to JailBreak it?

If upgrade fails, can you copy ebooks to the device? Copy an ebook, reboot the device and check. If you cannot see the ebook, you have problems with the flash memory.

Tried this version and rebooting, as well as transfering ebooks to Kindle device.
The books do not appear in the list

Is there another approach to fix the problem with flash memory?

The memory has either switched to readonly mode or got damaged.
There isn't any software fix, afaik.
