Can Calibre "remember" epubs that have been transferred to ereader (kobo)
Hi,
I'd like to know if it is possible for Calibre to "remember" what ebooks have been transferred from its library to an eReader ? When my kobo is plugged, calibre adds a columns showing if an epub is on the device. I'd like to have the same data even when my kobo isn't plugged. The information could then be refreshed every time the kobo is plugged (in case you had deleted an epub directly from the reader for example) ... Thanks for your advices ! |

I have Reading List auto-populate a list + column with #status On Device.
Now you can do searches for "Want to Read" AND NOT #status:"=On Device", etc. |

Calibre makes it trivially easy to switch between different Calibre libraries. I have 2 libraries, one for what's on the ereader and one that's for everything that's not on the ereader.
Whenever I finish a book on the ereader I delete it from the ereader, then when I next connect it to my computer I can see those that aren't on the ereader (in the "what's on the ereader" library) and can tell which ones I've finished since I sort by date. I then select them and use calibre's copy to library with delete after copy and copy (move) them to the library that has everything not on the ereader. Before I do that I tag them with "finished". New books from the library or that I've bought go into the "what's on the ereader" library, from which I transfer them to the ereader. What you're suggesting I'd find confusing because when you delete a book on the ereader calibre will say it's on the ereader. I've downloaded thousands of books from project gutenberg and other places which I haven't read yet and they're in the everything that's not on the ereader library, so that "finished" tag keeps things organized. Like @uli, I use the Reading List plugin, but, differently. For each of my devices, I have a reading list that will to send the books to the device. When I get a new book, I decide which devices it goes to and add the book to the appropriate lists. The next time I connect the device, the books get sent and the list cleared.
I did do it the other way at one time, but, found it wasn't actually that useful. I can always look at the device to see what is on it. Or connect it to and calibre will show the books. And adding a book to the list when it is already on the device doesn't harm anything. |

To see directly in Calibre which book is on which reader, I use the following process:
- only one library for all three reader (main, home, travel) - Kobo Utility to add read-percentage from reader to Calibre - reading list to add books to one or more devices - reading list (automated) to add device name to a customized column - reading list to remove from device as this will also removing the device name from that customized column. - one combined column: {#onMain:switch(J,M,N,x,.)}{#onHome:switch(J,H,N,x ,.)}{#onTravel:switch(J,T,N,x,.)} result e.g. M.. or .HT very nice - at least for me it works 100 percent perfect. |
