I am testing what I can do with libraries on my new Lina and am curious about a couple of things...
Firstly , I borrowed one book directly using the device, but I separately borrowed a different book on same library account using the Libby app on a tablet. At first it seemed that the kobo did not have / could not retrieve the Libby loan but it has now appeared. So how is that working? I disabled wifi yesterday so it must have sneaked into the kobo after I looked for it but before I went offline? I could not find anyway to view loans or holds via the kobo like I can with Libby or with pc overdrive. 2nd puzzle is that in book details for the 2 loans I see format = overdrive. Whereas With my sideloads from calibre using the special driver plugin I see format = kepub. Overdrive is not a format? I thought that the way loans work is that kobo match the loan title to their store inventory and lend me a copy from the kobo store, so it is really a kepub, but maybe in some wrapper to force expiry.. Another ongoing test of mine will be to wait and see if they vanish at end of loan, or just become unreadable. I am not interested in hacking the system so I don't particularly want to wire Kobo to pc and poke around with files, but seeing format=overdrive has made me curious. The books look just like other books, I have all the same controls for font and font size... I am also curious to know if any annotations survive returning a book i.e. if I return a book, or let loan expire, then borrow the same book again on some future date, would any previous annotation be matched to it. |

The format = Overdrive is just letting you know that it's an eBook from Overdrive and that means it's a limited time loan. Overdrive loans downloaded with the Kobo will be KePub.

And I think the answer to the other mystery, how the kobo is finding the loans made via the Libby app, will be that they show up when the kobo syncs, which is probably on some default preset frequency? Or it syncs whenever WiFi is toggled, or both I like the fact that the kobo has a filter for showing overdrive loans and also shows how many loan days remain ( so you can assess if you are reading fast enough ! ) |

When your loan expires, your Kobo will download the preview which acts as a placeholder for the annotations. If you remove the preview, your annotations will be gone.
