Likebook Mars -still no Nook!
When I got the Mars I was excited to have a more general purposes e-ink tablet. Reviews were good with some noting the speed of them compared to others. And reviews and questions showed that it either did or did not work for Nook app depending on the responder.
When I got it I found that current Nook app would not work but that an older version would. Now that no longer works either. While that older app wasn’t exactly wonderful, it worked well enough to use. After looking at some other android e-ink tablets I’ve given up. All are sluggish to some extent and I know that it is caused by most apps not accounting for the differences between how e-ink and lcd work. I can live with the sluggishness. I won’t live with not working for a fairly major e-book provider. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |

I have both the Mars and the Onyx Nova. The Nook app has always worked on the Nova, including the latest version, and performs well. The Nova's firmware includes optimization features that can enhance the look and performance of apps like the Nook on E-Ink. Performance may not equal an iPad, but it's quite good as E-Ink devices go.

Thanks for the info. I assume u are talking the Nova Pro?
I have a Kindle Oasis 2017 model and would want something nearly as smooth if possible. Been cogitating the new Nook Glowlight Plus but YouTube videos show it to be a bit slow. In order of reading devices I own the Oasis is first, followed by an iPad Mini. The Mars barely gets used as it is just not good enough at anything IMO. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |

I'm talking about the 'plain' Nova. The main difference is that the Pro has a stylus and can be used for writing/drawing.
I was quite happy with my Mars when I first bought it. Once I bought my Nova, however, I rarely use my Mars. The Nova outperforms the Mars. I once had the 2017 Oasis, and currently have an iPad Pro. For reading, I prefer the Nova to the iPad, although the iPad is quite good for reading. When using the Kindle app or the Nook app, the Nova is nearly as smooth as the Oasis. You can tweak optimization settings in the Nova firmware (in this case, Animation Filter) to improve smoothness and page-turning speed for each app individually. Moon Reader on the Nova is slightly quicker than either the Kindle or the Nook apps, and provides a smoothness quite similar to the Oasis. NeoReader, the native Onyx reading app, is good (much better than the Boyue native app, especially with pdfs), but is a tad less smooth than the others. Librera Pro takes longer to load, but the page-turning is smooth once the app is loaded. I can't promise you that the Nova would meet your needs, but I would recommend that you check it out. |

Just ordered a Nova Pro. I had just gotten a Nook Glowlight Plus while it was on sale, but the software isn’t so good. Great screen though. If the Nova Pro turns out as good as I’ve been reading here and there the Glowlight Plus will go back.
That will allow me to do all my ebook reading on one device with the exception of the books I have gotten from Apple. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |

In a different thread in another part of the forum I’ve posted what I have ended up going with.
Keeping the Glowlight Plus. Really like it a lot and for just reading books, the software is more than good enough. Ordered an Oasis 3 via trade-in of my Voyage. Got $50 for the Voyage and 25% off the Oasis in the deal with Amazon. Makes out of pocket around $203 w/tax. That’s better than what I could have sold the Voyage for. Returning the Oasis 2017 and Nova Pro as both are within the return window. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |
