				Which ereader based on...

So I"m looking to get a new ereader. I have a paperwhite 3 right now and am happy with it. Just considering an upgrade. Here's what I'd be looking for in terms of a new one: - Night Light (so the option for the warm color for reading before bed) - Water resistant (would be nice but not absolutely necessary) - Similar size and form factor to paperwhite... so 6-8 inch screen. - I'm pretty embedded in the amazon ecosystem for books... so while options for other formats would be great, it definitely need to work with amazon ebooks. - Less than 300 bucks. I'm interested in the Boyue Likebook Mars but can't find any comparison of it to the new paperwhite. Anyway, input much appreciated. Thanks! |

to clarify... i don't much care about screen size so long as the actual physical dimensions of the entire reader are close to that of the paperwhite.

I suggest a Kobo Libra H2O. It has a 7" screen. Kobo size: 144 x 159 x 7.8 mm PW 3 size: 169 mm x 117 mm x 9.1 mm I know it won't read Kindle eBooks without converting, but it's very easy to remove the DRM from KF8 (AZW3) eBooks and convert to ePub using Calibre. |

No ereader besides Kindles and Android ereaders will work with Amazon ebooks as they are. You'll need to remove the DRM and convert for any other ereader. You can install the Kindle app on an Android ereader, e.g. Boyue and Onyx. But the reading experience is not as good as on a default interface, because the app is not optimized for eink. Still, it's an option, if you absolutely don't want to mess with de-DRMing and converting. |

Kobo Libra doesn't have the same form factor as Paperwhite, and the dimensions are somewhat different also. It's an excellent device, but it might not be what the OP wants.

The OP asked for something the size of the Paperwhite and Mr Wolf suggested something much larger and said it's comparable. That's an excellent bit of salesmanship! There's a wolf at the door. Barry |

The Kobo Libra H2O is a similar size to the PW3, not much larger. Also, I did say it's not compatible. Given the the OP has a PW3, the only Kindle choice would be a PW4 and given he has a PW3, I see no need to get a PW4. So the only other choice is to recommend something else that's not a Kindle.

if the physical dimensions are close to a PW... the libra is a fine recommendation. thanks!! ill just have to look into how much effort is involved in converting kindle books.

The Likebook Mars he mentioned is an Android eReader. But it's a 7.8" eReader, so definitely bigger than a Paperwhite. Just out of curiosity, does anyone make a 6" Android eReader? A quick search doesn't turn anything up — I think I saw a 6.8" one, but that's the smallest I've seen.

The OP specified a 6 to 8 inch screen.

If you find the Libra H20 a bit too big for you but is fine with converting Kindle books to Kobo, you might also want to consider the Clara HD. It is much lighter than the PW3 at 166g, and it has the warm light feature. It has no waterproofing unlike the Libra H20, however.
