Is {author_sort} editable?
When saving a book to disk or device you get the root folder {author_sort} in the format "McDonald, Ed" - is there any way to change it to "Ed McDonald"?
I have already tried to modify the "Author sort name algorithm" in Tweaks to author_sort_copy_method = u'fn ln' but that doesn't seem to do the trick. |

If you want {authors}, why use the sort value template?
<OK some background> Changing many of the settings in Preferences are: 1) Future use Defaults and do not affect any current usage (Previously stored Values). 2) Future NEW DEVICE use (the first use takes a snapshot of these). If the device has been used, the settings for that device are kept separately. Attache the device: right click the devise icon (when it appears): Configure. That only affects THAT device (these are stored in the config folder) 3) Some settings are Per Library (and are stored inside the Library DB). Switch Libraries and you may see differences. eg Custom columns are a per-Library setting. <back to the Q> Right click in the Authors list IN THE Tag Browser: manage See the buttons at the bottom. Those are for global sort rule change recalculations. You can FIX individual authors by making corrections and adjustments. This one place affects all use of that name in 1 go! |

Correct me if I am wrong but this option isn't for editing the name of authors inside Calibre?
What I was looking for was for when saving on main HDD or adding a book to Calibre the Author main folder to be automatically named in the format "Last Name First Name" like "William Gibson" or "Neil Gaiman" and not "Gibson, William" like it's happening now. |

@Crusher - the formation of the file names Saved is determined by the Save template in Preferences->Save to Disk.
Similarly the formation of the file names Sent is determined by the Save Template in Preferences->Send to device, note that this can be overridden for specific devices in the Device Configuration settings. If you use the {authors} in a template you should get "Ed McDonald". BR |

I don't believe you can change the Library file structure in any way.
It is always the same, the various setting change the DISPLAY and the device |

You can make lots of changes in the library file structure. The real question is how badly those changes will break calibre.

invert copy comma nocomma That said, you probably want to leave that as comma. What you need to change are the preferences for "Save to disk" and "Send to device template". Default is: Code:
{author_sort}/{title}/{title} - {authors} Code:
{authors}/{title}/{title} - {authors} |

And if you want to do this for just one book, you can set the author sort to what ever you want in the the metadata editor for the book. Or, you can set it for the author across the library using the "Manage Authors" tool. Otherwise, the library directories should usually be treated as a blackbox. Calibre maintains them as it needs to maintain them. If you want books elsewhere in another format, such as on the device, you the save-to-disk or send-to-device templates to set the filenames as you want. |
