flight mode without menu access
I have an unusual problem with my Kindle Paperwhite V2. Two years ago I damaged my display slightly, a little break in the top right corner makes it impossible to access the menu. All other functions work perfectly, so I can read, adjust the light, load books via USB etc.
Thankfully the kindle was in flight mode at the time of the accident, and since I don't need the wireless connection, I was happily reading along for two years. Yesterday happened what I was fearing all the time: I accidentially turned flight mode off by answering one of these questions popping up. Now my battery life is dramatically reduced and I would love to get back into flight mode. My question: is there any trick, any hidden menu or way to turn on flight mode again, without beeing able to access the kindle menu by means of the button in the top right corner of the screen? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated |

Does V2 mean PW2? If so, you can update the firmware to the latest version.
The new design of the home screen will let you to access the airplane mode switch. |

Umm.. you didn't say what firmware version you have. But see if you can do this:
When you have a book open, touch the top and click Aa > Page > Orientation That will put you into landscape mode where the menu button should now be located in a different, and presumably working part of the screen, Last edited by Junket; 12-02-2019 at 03:42 AM. Reason: err or as hius07's faster reply above suggests |

Unfortunately, I don't have the option to change the orientation from the font size screen. Would have been so nice...

Thank you for your suggestions. Two more questions:
- how do I find my firmware version (without having access to the menu)? - how can I install a firmware update? As I understand it, you download a binary file, place it in the kindle's main folder and install it FROM THE MENU. This last step is impossible for me. Any more ideas? |

Copy the firmware update bin-file to the usb-root of your kindle, unplug, reboot it with long press of the power button. Update process will start within reboot.
