Question PC to Mac? Libraries on portable hard drive.

I also have backed up the configuration data.

How do I set Calibre up on the mac?

I will assume you have installed Calibre on the MAC, just No Books (easiest to proceed 0

? What kind of backup? A simple file copy to that HD from the OLD location?
Then that is a functional Library right where it is (if you choose). Switch/Create: Use Existing: <select the Library folder>

If it was a Calibre Export/Import (on the Library Icon)
Run that (Import ) on your MAC. Yup! That simple. Everything

I am not positive about MAC's, but on Linux and PC's you just replace the CONTENTS of the Calibre Configuration Folder.
CALIBRE SHOULD BE SHUTDOWN when doing any FILESYSTEM type copy
When you first restart, you will need to use Create/Switch: use wxisting to locate your library.
You may need to run the Quality Check Plugin to find and FIX filename issues.
THEN run Library Maintenance, to fix the rest

Yes!

I have created 2 copies of my library to take to my daughters. Both have Macs. For one, Calibre will be totally new, so that will be the easier of the two to do. The other already has Calibre installed. She will have to figure out what to do!

The config data will be available if they need it/can use it. Thanks for the tip about making sure Calibre is NOT running when working with these files.

Thanks again.

If she has a Library, she wont need YOUR settings. The Library has its configuration (columns).
She can either just Run the Library from the external drive (Once Create/Switch has been done, the Library is on the Quick Switch List)
REName the Library folder on her copy, that will be the Library name used when it get added. Less confusion
Or
She can Merge that one with hers;
Simply select all (desired) books: (right-click) Copy to Library: <hers>(and delete is an option)

My library is actually many libraries and is a huge collection. I want to avoid the time it takes to add these books, thus the importance of the config data.

Should I ask in a separate post about the location of the Calibre config info on a Mac and whether it is identical to the config info from Windows(7 in this case) and therefore safe to copy/paste window files into the Mac config folder? That is something I still do not know.

Press the Preferences->Miscellaneous->Open calibre configuration directory button.

Config has per user settings. Like Icons, plugins, PI configs.
If your Library is basically Vanilla (no column Icons), then I am not sure you even need to update the Config folder.
The Library DB has everything IT needs

I know how to access and find the library on my pc and have made a backup copy. What I don't know is whether the files from my pc can be used to replace the Mac config files.

I guess your point is that I will be able to locate the folder for the files on the Mac. Of course.

What I don't know is if it is safe to replace said files with the ones I have?

By definition its not safe, nothing ever is?

Back up what's there, replace with whatever was in Windows, if it works your laughing, if not restore from the backup you just took.
