Roll back version ...
Hi all,
I have just migrated to version 4.0 and, sincerely, for different reasons I prefer to stay in version 3.48... (I had made the backup of my ebooks before moving to V4) I tried to remove Calibre and all traces of the software... but after reinstalling and adding my books, I find that the metadata from the last books have disappeared... There must still be a "base" or "trace" somewhere. what do you think of it? Thank you in advance. PS: Sorry for my poor level of English. Last edited by KhorsKan; 10-05-2019 at 07:58 AM. |

If you didn't include the calibre database files in the backup and the restore, then you could very well have lost metadata that was only present in the database and not (yet) also stored inside books and in the folders for the books.
When you say "adding the books" it seems like you didn't backup the calibre library as one big "black box" but instead treated it as a set of books. |

I had set up the backup as follows (in preferences) :
_ I unchecked "Save covers separately" _ I unchecked "Save metadata in a separate OPF file" _ I checked "Update metadata in backed up copies" Should we add or do something else ? I didn't save the library as one big "black box" ? I don't understand ... |

If you want to backup a calibre library you backup the folder that contains the calibre library. That folder is "the black box". You back it up as one atomic item.
That way you are sure to get everything. How you do it is up to you. Perhaps copy and paste the whole folder as one item (the black box) to a USB drive? |

Oh okay! I get it...
Indeed, that's not what I did. Until now I selected all the books and saved them in a separate directory... Ouch... ! Thank you very much for your answers! |
