Calibre 4.0 Viewer
After installing Calibre 4.0 I have found a weird behaviour with the viewer:
The image is like a puzzle. When I pass the cursor over the viewer window, sometimes the content change, specially when the menus are called ("puzzling" the image even more). I am using Windows 7 64 bits, with the 32 bits program (I have tried also the 64 bit version with the same result). This behaviour occurs with all epubs I tried, and also happen with the preview pane of the editor (although it is no so bad as with the viewer alone). ![]() |

Qt WebEngine ishaving issues with your graphics card/drivers. You can try updating the graphics drivers or if that is not possible stick with version 3.48 till you can upgrade windows. Note that windows 7 is end of lifed in three months.

I like too much your program and I would like to be up to date, but no way to change computer now ![]() I have no idea about qt Web engine, but I have read that there is the possibility to switch between Desktop OpenGL, ANGLE (Direct X) and software rasterization at runtime. At least with library ANGLE it seems that you can use Direct X in windows instead of openGl. Is there any possibility to have something in this way compiled with Calibre? (excuse me if I am proposing an stupid thing, as again, I do not know about Qt programming): It could be helpful for people with older computers. (off topic): By the way, I refused to install freely windows 10 when it was possible, as many other people, because I think Windows 7 is easier to use and with more "freedom" from MS control. |

Stay with 3.48 then for the time being. And yes Qt in calibre is compiled with ANGLE. And even with a fallback software implementation based on mesa.

It is strange then that it does not work with windows 7 than manage directX 11, but well, just to keep using the updated version, is it possible to run Calibre 4.0 in 64 bits and Calibre 3.48 in 32 bits sharing the same database (opening only one at a time)?. Are the things changed by one (in the book database, not in other internal configurations) be automatically updated in the other? |

You can do that, and things should work, but I would not recommend it. Sooner or later there might be an incompatible change. Decide which one you wan tto use and stick with it.
