Hi, I have a problem with my Kobo H2o original version. It cannot connect to Wifi if I use the latest firmware version 4.15.12920 . It always says "cannot connect." I recently found this from someone on the site.

It is true that kobo.com is blocked here in China. I did try using the suggested firmware in the above message and that did work. I would like to use the latest firmware instead. Is it possible to fix this?

I contacted Kobo Live support and they said kobo.com isn't blocked. I also cannot run a Vpn through the router. I just want to be able to use the browser again in the beta features area. Of course resetting the Kobo to factory settings lets me connect to Wifi again since the old firmware uses the Microsoft Kobo Wifi Check site.

Please help!

What is the actual message being shown? Firmware 4.15.12920 should allow you to use WiFi even if it cannot connect to the Kobo servers. If it cannot connect, it should display a message about this and ask if you want to connect anyway. That will allow you to use the WiFi for other purposes. Previous firmware would always disconnect from WiFi if it couldn't connect to the Kobo server.

And the config file option above should work with 4.15.12920. It should mean the WiFi will stay connected without prompting when the server cannot be reached.

I couldn't modify the last message.
I want to know is there a KoboReader.sqlite file I can download. I can't register an account even if I use this bypass since the site is blocked here. Do you have this file for download anywhere?

I'm pretty sure that message means what is says. I think that is the message displayed when the device truly cannot connect to the WiFi network. The other, longer messages mean the device connected, but, found reasons not to connect.

There are instructions in the forum about how to bypass the registration. You will need to do a search for them.

I installed firmware version 4.7.10413 since Wifi is still working. [FeatureSettings]
IgnoreCaptivePortal=true didn't work for me.
I wish there was a way to modify the Wifi test url instead.

Because it wasn't in the firmware back then. Your first post actually quotes this fact.

And are you saying that you can see the device has connected to your WiFi router with this firmware version? But, not with the later firmware? The only WiFi connection issues I have had with my Aura H2O with any firmware has been with the router at work. And that was definitely a problem with the router.

Wifi connects to 4.7.10413 and earlier versions perfectly. Any firmware after this one fails to connect and won't save the password too. I even tried making my Android phone use Hotspot and tried connecting the Kobo to that. Still the same problem. I just want to be able to connect to the Beta Browser and connect to Calibre server to download my books without the USB wire.


There are ways to do it. There are a couple of different patches that can be used. Another way is to add a hosts entry file to point to something that will give the appropriate responses. You would need to do a search in the forum to find the details.
