				replace title page using calibre?

Hello: using calibre 3.4.6 in w10, I want to replace what calibre calls "titlepage.xhtml" with another file. Questions. -It looks to me (epub newbie) that "titlepage.xhtml" contains a .jpeg. And that's it, plus the usual metadata. -The .jpeg does NOT have the title within it, nor the author name (me). -So, I want to replace that .jpeg (only) with another .jpeg, in which I have embedded the book title and author name. I have the replacement .jpeg appropriately titled, so that the 2 jpegs (old/unacceptable) (replacement/acceptable). -I replaced the original "cover.jpeg" new .jpeg renamed "cover.jpeg"? But the words still don't show, there's nothing in the metatext loading the words. So, how do I get words to show within "cover.jpeg" contained in "titlepage.xhtml" ? Thank you. |

Words are put into the image with graphics tools. If your cover is simple: The Generate cover plugin can place 4 fields of metadata on a background image. THEN you need to Rmbed the cove into the book (that replaces the existing 'Titlepage' with the newer one) |

@pslsr - the Calibre Library Manager has a couple of cover generation tools, a built-in one that you can access from the Metadata Editor, and an optional plugin - Generate Cover - see ==>> Index of plugins. After creating cover from one of the above you'll need to embed it in the epub file, the easiest way to do that is with the Polish Book tool, select the book and press 'P'. Or, if you're using the book editor in a stand-alone mode - i.e. without a library, export the cover.jpeg (right click the file), edit it with an image editor, and then replace cover.jpeg (right click the file) with the edited version. Or use Sigil's Open With to do the same thing… more or less. BR |

If you wish to replace the image file used as the cover: 1. Click on "Edit Metadata" on the main menu bar. In the Change Cover box, click on browse and navigate to the new file's location and import to the file in calibre. This will show on sidebar. 2. Click "Embed Metadata". This replaces the cover image in the images directory within the epub or azw3. 3. Open the file editor. Navigate to the text folder. Delete the "titlepage.xhtml" 4. Within the editor, click 'tools' (on the menubar), 'add cover' and select the new cover image. This creates a new titlepage.xhtml 5. You may want to edit the titlepage.xhtml to change how it is displayed. I like to change "preserveAspectRatio="none"" to "preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet"". This preserves the aspect ratio of height to width. |
