pw4 export / import notes

Hello, I've got an amazon kindle touch (old version) and I'd like to copy my highlights (not necessarily my notes) to my new kindle paperwhite 4 2018.
Is this doable?
I've seen that the highlights can be exported from the old kindle, but they probably can't be imported again.

To prevent problems like this, how to you suggest to proceed? Is it possible to use another reading app (inside the kindle) which is compatible with notes and underlining text, and that will be future-proof? Probably using koreader? I'm trying to find a way to import notes into from kindle into koreader.

Books delivered to the device by Amazon, either Amazon purchases or those you emailed or sent using "Send to Kindle", will automatically sync reading position, notes, and highlights back to your account. Any other Kindle devices or apps registered to your account will receive them automatically. I believe this is the simplest approach.

Added: One exception is that personal documents do not sync with Kindle for PC/Mac.

Thanks, an alternative would be to use KOReader and load files using calibre?
