Annoying PW4 Restarts?

Sunday night I was in the bath reading. When I finished one KU book, I wanted to read the next in the series, and clicked to borrow before I realized the Airplane mode was still on. No biggie, this happens often, but the PW4 seems to get confused when I turned the Airplane mode off, borrowed the new book, then randomly froze.

It would not unfreeze with holding the power button, but I had to go to bed (already stayed up way too late). The next morning it would still not unfreeze, so when I got to work I plugged it into a wall charger. Took it off and found that the battery had completely discharged overnight. When it first froze it was on 55% battery and stuck on the library screen with Wi-fi on, which must have drained the battery completely. So I charged it a few hours to 100%

The PW4 works fine now once I'm reading, but when I first start reading after it's been closed a bit, it will restart the system when I first start reading. It's been doing this for 2 days now. After the initial restart it's fine but this is annoying.

Anyone else experienced something similar?

Thankfully it finally stopped restarting for now.

I've been having trouble with lock-ups and reboots on my Paperwhite 2 since the latest update. Assumed it had something to do with my custom fonts, but I'm beginning to wonder. I'm anxiously watching for a new update.

Exact time both of mine started rebooting! Also watching for an update.

Hm.

I wonder if, when I turned off my airplane mode, it updated when connecting to wi-fi.

Quite possible. It's super aggressive at auto updating.

Perhaps they have upgraded their update infrastructure. Used to be you could wait for weeks even with WiFI left on, as if they didn’t have capacity to push it out more quickly.

I think Amazon still does staggered upgrades.

However, perhaps there's a schedule wherein if the Kindle hasn't checked for updates in x days, it'll check immediately upon connecting to the internet.

I know on the jailbreaking front, we have to be careful about connecting to wifi since once the device updates, it's typically game over.

I recently purchased the 10th gen Kindle, and it started updating a few minutes after I got it connected to WiFi. Never had that happen before, but I haven’t bought a new one for awhile so this could just be that there were serious problems to fix on day 0, given lead time to produce and ship devices for the launch. Or maybe it is a tactic to discourage jail breaking.
