Need help with Collections

I'm either too aggravated or too stupid to figure out Collections and I hope someone can help me.

I went through the effort to mark all my 1,200+ ebooks in the Amazon cloud into 8 collections. I have a refurbished Voyage and want to sort my downloaded books into those collections. However, I can't find any way to download the Collections. The books have downloaded fine. Please, someone, give me a step-by-step using the current software as to how to download these Collections! All it wants me to do is create NEW collections, completely bypassing what I have already done. I've wasted HOURS trying to figure it out. I have software version 5.12.1.

Yes, on every other device, I just sideload and keep a couple of hundred books on it. That's how I've avoided Collections so far, but I really want to separate out things like Cookbooks and Westerns.

Assuming UI hasn't drastically changed from 5.11:

Filter > Collections

Make sure ALL is selected instead of DOWNLOADED on upper left.

Long press on the collection name (or short tap on the three dots) and select Add to Downloaded.

Thanks Ilovejedd, but I can't even download the collection NAMES. Doing what you suggest, I am forced to create even MORE collections. I already sorted everything into the collections I wanted on the web site in Contents. Redoing it individually for 1,300+ books on each and every ereader doesn't seem like that is the purpose or they wouldn't have snatched away the folder method that they had on the Kindle Keyboard. It's supposed to work from kindle to kindle registered under the same account, but it's not. I don't know how to make it so.

Note, there are two places where you can find "Collections": "Filter" (just before the right-most) and "Sort" (right-most)

You need to select "Collections" under "Filter" (it's the one that also shows Read/Unread, Books, Periodicals, Docs).

On the upper left side of the screen, there's ALL | DOWNLOADED

If DOWNLOADED is selected, you should see "x more Collections in the Cloud" in the bottom left corner. You need to select ALL to show all the collections you have on the cloud and download each one to the device. Perhaps run a manual "Sync" if the collections still aren't showing up even when you select ALL.

Might also be helpful if you post a screenshot of your Kindle.

The collections are there and you can add and remove items from them, even if you don’t ‘download’ them. ‘Downloading collections’ (I don’t think it is the right term but that is how Amazon puts it) just makes them visible in Library view, even when it is set to show only DOWNLOADED items.

If you have Home Screen View enabled (I turn it off in Settings whenever I get a new Kindle), you need to tap YOUR LIBRARY to get to your book listing.

Tap ALL in the header bar so your entire library is visible. Tap FILTER to show filter options. This brings up a long list of options. You need to scroll down to the very bottom to find the one for Collections.

If you choose that, it will show a list of your Collections. On the right of each item is a stack of ‘3 dots’: tap on that and it will bring up a menu. One of the menu options is Add to Downloaded. If you choose that (for one or more of your Collections) then those will always be visible in Library view, mixed in with items in your library.

Personally I don’t like seeing them mixed in with books on Library view, so I don’t ‘download’ any collections. But I can still see and modify which collections a book is in by tapping the 3 dot button and choosing Add to Collections. And I can still browse a collection by choosing ALL and then filtering by Collections (which I do rarely).

I wish this were all more consistent with the way the Kindle mobile apps show collections (Collections is in the Sort options, not Filter options, which seems more logical IMO) but for some reason Amazon has kept the ‘legacy’ (pre-cloud collection) UI available for those who had older Kindles.
