Get jailbreak back after reset?
Hey Guys,
a few years ago I bought the Kindle PW3 and the first step was jailbreaking it. I had no problems and everything was working fine. After a lot of time not using the Kindle today I loaded and started it. I noticed, that the Kindle upgraded to the Firmware 5.10.2 by itself. I also recognized, that KUAL was not accesible anymore. Then I made a huge mistake: I reseted the Kindle via the settings without knowing, that a downgrade from my Firmware is not possible. Afterwards I tried to reinstall the Jailbreak again, which did not work. The Kindle deletes the files by itself. Is there any way to get the Jailbreak back to my device? What is really interesting: In the past I installed some custom screensavers. Those are still (after the reset) working. I remember, that I had to put the files in a folder named "screensavers" but this folder does not exist anymore after the reset. Maybe the reset did not delete the Jailbreak? I hope you can help me ![]() Greetings |

The last chance is to try to install the hotfix

After (in case of) successful hotfix installation you'd reinstall booklet KUAL and all hacks you need.

So I was able to install the Hotfix. The device restarted and I copyed KUAL to the documents folder. Unfortunately KUAL is still not showing up at my books :/

Just to expound on the matter, reset doesn't actually remove the jailbreak. Installing/updating firmware will remove the jailbreak. Reset does remove the hotfix though, which is what makes sure the jailbreak gets copied to the correct location after a firmware update.
As you have noticed, the KUAL azw2 document no longer works on new firmware (5.9 and above). Now, every time the firmware updates, you'll have to reinstall KUAL along with your other add-ons. If I were you though, I'd install the KUAL Helper+ add-on now, use the Prevent OTA Update option and keep firmware on 5.11 or older. It seems Amazon's getting nastier with regards to JB on 5.12 onwards. |

Thanks for the answer!
I just installed KUAL Helper+ add-on and enabled the Prevent OTA Update option. Just for my understanding: After restarting KUAL this option is not activated anymore. Is it set in the background though? |

;dm search bar command (semi-colon required). At least the "system" document will show if the device is trying to 'phone home' or not. |

That button is not dynamic, so, unless you somehow reinstalled an older Helper extension version, it has no reason to ever disappear.
If you meant the checkmark disappeared, that's perfectly normal. The checkmark is a transient GUI feature that just indicates a button has been clicked *in that session*. |
