TOC issue with FanFicFare downloads

Hello,

This issue might have been addressed somewhere already, but if it has I couldn't find it so I'm asking again(?).

I read a lot of fanfiction and various other stories that I download with FFF into my Calibre library. That works fine and it's great. But I've just recently started using the table of contents to navigate things when necessary rather than the search function on my Kobo Glo HD and I noticed that the TOC's of updated books don't update when I upload the books to my Kobo again.

I'll try to explain what I mean a bit better. If I have a book on my Kobo that I'm in the middle of reading, but a new chapter gets published, I obviously download that new chapter with FFF. Then I 'send to device' the story even though it's already on the device and it updates with the new content... the content is there, but it isn't visible in the TOC, and that also sometimes screws up the search function as well.

Is there a way to always update TOC data??

Thanks!

You might want to check if on the Collections, covers and uploads tab in the KoboTouch/KoboTouchExtended driver configuration, the checkbox next to Do not treat replacements as new books has been checked. This will lose your reading position and other information as the book will be treated as a new upload but the import should place the new TOC into the the database.

It is checked, but that's how I want it since I DON'T want to lose my reading position. I'm in the middle of too many books to worry about remembering where I was in each one. I was hopeful that there would be a way to not lose the position while still uploading the TOC.

At the moment, there isn't a way to do it. The Kobo firmware loads the ToC into the database when it is first imported. If you replace the book, the firmwares default behaviour is to remove the book from the database and import the updated book as a new book. Which means you lose the reading status. The KoboTouch driver has a cheat so that this is not done. But, it means the ToC is not updated.

I have been, slowly, working on a solution to this. It will be added to my Kobo Utilities plugin. Hopefully I will be able to return to this soon.

At this time, you can have A or B but not both.

Edit: Hmmm.... should have read the entire thread before replying. Davidfor has already covered this plus the possibility that this capability may be added in the future.

I was going to comment that this should have gone in the FanFicFare plugin thread, but davidfor had a much more detailed answer than I would have!

I just know it didn’t work in a similar way, and I returned the kobo when I tried it a few years ago.
