Different behaviour depending on what procedure is followed.
Hi,
Just wanted to report this (and maybe find a solution), not sure where it belongs in this forum. But here it goes: - Calibre portable on Win7 - CC companion on Android device - FBReader on Android device Scenario one: 1. On Android CC Companion, connected device. 2. On Calibre: A CBZ file. Send to device. Asked to convert. An ePub is created and uploaded to device. 3. On device, CC Companion, I see the book, and the meta data (title, author, description, etc...) is all there. 4. On device, in CC Companion, choose read, ePub is opened in FBReader. 5. Issue: print to small, and a known issue is that you can not zoom in, therefore not readable. Scenario two: Same as above. In point 2 I tried convert to mobi. Same result. But PDF allows me to zoom in once uploaded to the device. The quality however is poor. Text is pixelated and hard to read. Scenario three: 1. Don't use CC Companion. Use the FBReader Calibre connector. 2. On the Android device, in FBReader, choose network library, and connect to Calibre (IP+port). 3. One issue here is that I have not succeeded in doing a direct search for a titel. Not sure if it is just me, but for now I just browsed in the list. 4. I choose a title and see the Calibre meta data incl description. 5. Choose download 6. Issue: in the library (on Android device, in FBReader) on the shelf I can not see the meta data. No author, and the book title is "Calibre_Library". 7. I can open the CBR in FBReader, and can ZOOM in, with very good quality. So conclusion is: A- use CC Companion and get all meta data on your device, but loose the ability to zoom. B- Don't use CC Companion, loose the meta data, but have a perfect readable copy with full ZOOM option. Any thoughts on this ? (I'm trying to understand how there is a connection between this topic and the question I asked here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=275069) Last edited by polarwind; 05-30-2019 at 07:58 AM. |

"4. On device, in CC Companion, choose read, ePub is opened in FBReader."
so. change this to be your preferred epub reader either it's a setting in CC or you need to change what android uses to open epub ( clear default actions - then choose... ) |

@stumped : FBReader is my first choice. So that is OK.
I added the meta data to the ComicInfo.xml file in the CBZ file. But in scenario one I am still required to convert to ePub (otherwise no book will be uploaded), and no meta data is stored in the ePub file, also zooming is not possible when following this scenario. And in scenario two it seems that FBReader is not reading the xml file. So I tried a new scenario three: I copied the modified CBZ file from my PC to my phone. Then I opened it with ComicRack. The CBZ is zoomable, and the metadata is available. But since Calibre is not pushing the CBZ file to my Android, and downloading it from the Content Server gives an error "file content type (or something...)". So the only thing missing now is to find a way from within Calibre to upload to ComicRack, or have ComicRack on Android connect to Calibe... Or... ?? |

OK.
make .CBZ an allowed file type for CC to fetch from calibre, if that is what you want. if you use calibre content server --its a PULL by CC not a push by calibre. within CC preferences you can set what file types you want pulled. then if CC sees that file type in calibre library it will get it for you. if the .cbz files are not yet in your calibre library , that's a different issue. Fix that first but if calibre has them, yet thinks it has to convert before sending, then solve that issue. calibre needs to know that your device can accept unconverted files, so find what is telling it differently. |

Haha, I just came to the same conclusion. I was told the same thing back in 2016. But of course, after 2 new phones, I forgot all about this feature ...
And strange enough on Android, I now can zoom in. The title and author + meta data is all in CC Companion. Then I choose to open in FBReader and I see the title and author, but the manual added comments are missing in FBReader. I did a test (scenario 5) on iPad. I installed KyBook and manage to connect to Calibre, browse all books, see all meta data. I download the eBooks, and all meta data is copied KyBook. So it looks like this is a FBReader issue... or am I missing something ? Thanks @stumped for the help ![]() |
