Calibre In-Line Table of Contents
This is a great feature. But I was wondering if there is a way to move it's location in an ePub.
Right now Calibre generates a Title page {I call it} that is technically the cover as the first page. I like that. But when I run the In-Line Table of Contents, it includes that the Cover page AFTER IT. I have always liked my books to have the cover page, then Table of Contents. I prefer NOT having the Table of Contents first {where it even lists the Cover page} and then the cover page. Can the inline Table of Contents be moved after the title page in my case? I don't see the file in Calibre. In Sigil, I see it but cannot move it after the cover page. Thank you. |

![]() I usually use that feature INSIDE the editor, so I just drag it in the list to where I want it (which happens to be the end ). |

In an epub the order of presentation is given in the spine element that's in the .opf file (e.g., content.opf or package.opf or whatever).

Well that SORT of did it! Within the editor, File Browser, I moved it down.
Only problem now is I have my Title Page, and on that same page right below the cover is the words Table of Contents followed on the next page with the links to the chapters. So I need to separate the cover page break from the Table of Contents RATHER than it starting on the same page as the Title Page. I am sort of surprised moved it down one did that. |

You could just trim off the unwanted vestige (Calibres tool generates the title ON PAGE) If you feel code edits are frightning, Open the preview pane, use the split tool to break it appart at the desired place, the simply delete the file from the list, it will be the current one (and save) |

ePub looks good with each chapter breaking perfectly and Moon Reader sees each new chapter and sets its internal TOC correctly. Then I add the inline TOC and it looks good as the first page. I then use Calibre to add a cover page which in File Browser shows not only that it is on top of the list of files, but that when previewed, there is NOT the beginning of the TOC starting at the bottom of the cover page {as described above.} Using Calibre Companion to bring it into Moon Reader, I have the problem where the cover page {title page}, is now showing Table of Contents at the end of the graphic of the cover. At this point, I don't know how I could be doing it wrong, since in Calibre each file is separate and the previews within Calibre do not show the above problem. |

It may not have been anything you did wrong (other than not wanting what they gave you ![]() Various parts of books need to be seperate files because ONLY ONE semantic can be assigned to any file (and only ONE file can use the semantic). It may be, the original anchor was not on the section title when Calibre split the book (My gripe with folk that expect all conversions to get it 100% correct and complain when it fails). ![]() Use Polish or Embed Metadata or Modify EPUB (a PI) to replace the cover with that in Calibre. That should clean up the cover (which should be an Image only content file. Do take some time to learn basic XHTML ( I simply started by reverse engineering the code I saw) and touchups of most books will be a breeze (I did say 'Most'. There are self pub horrors, just plain sloppy coding (it sorta works, but try an change something and it's ![]() |

Well I tried polish tonight. Probably need more Wax. I had no success with it. Still have the cover followed on the same page with Table of Contents.
Removed cover, added it in Sigil. Same problem. Added cover within Calibre, same problem. Remove inline TOC and breaks fine. Guess I'll leave out the inline TOC. Moon Reader apparently doesn't know its a separate file or chapter. |

Thought I would share the solution.
In the end, I just used Calibre's TOC editor, added an entry for the Cover and an entry for the In-Line TOC. Then Moon Reader saw each as a separate entry and the cover page / title page now breaks correctly. Learn something every day. |
