One author, multiple names: non-latin script support
I deal with books in multiple language with the Merge book records and it works well.
I can get let's say a specific Spanish author's book in original language and in English under the same record. But now, let's say my wife is Japanese, we want to keep on single book Library because we can both read book in multiple languages. With the same principle in mind, I can add a book in Japanese and possibly put it together with its English translation. Whether I search for it in JP or in EN I'll get the match. But this won't work for the Author. I have to search for the author in the "script" it was recorded. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a "phonetic name" as it's done in address books these days. This way the author original name could be recorded in its original script, and a latin phonetic version would go in "phonetic name". It'd then be trivial to add "phonetic name" to the list of searchable fields. |

You should be able to do that by adding a custom column for the phonetic name. Then just put something in it when needed. A search should use this. Or you can search it specifically. The Search page of the preferences have some options that can affect this.
