Just for fun, I created a throwaway account.

Basically, when you put in your email address, it asks you which one you want to download (all supposedly in PDFs) , and then it "can't find the file"

invent a name (my favourite is RegisteredUser) and give an address

Eh, a throwaway does basically the same thing, plus I get the added advantage of being able to add whatever spam does get sent through it to my program that blocks those kind of things.

There is another way.

Have an address which is real but that you only use for suspect areas.

My ISP lets me set up several email addresses. I have one for such a purpose. I then don't download emails to this address. Just an alternative.
