brown epub book icon not showing

I am totally not techie person so not sure of terminology to describe my predicament which is when I save different file formats to disk, for some reason the brown book icon for epub has started showing up as a software image, .mobi shows up as normal blue book icon. Have spent hours trying to figure it out...would be great if someone could point me in the right direction.

On Windows at least, the icon is provided by the 'default program' for the file type. So that blue book icon presumably comes from whatever program you have as the default for MOBI files. The calibre ebook-viewer program uses a shiny brown icon, something like this:

BR, I am not sure the Icon always belongs to the 'Default'.
My experience, is the Icon tends to be changed to the last program (that CAN handle the file type) was installed.
I know, I have previously used the file explorer to change the Icon
BUT
W10 V1809 seems to have removed both the control panel (from the menus ) AND change Icon from file (type) properties.
All you get now is the ability to change the default 'Open With"

The last program was Calibre. Have used Calibre as my ebook viewer for couple of years. Did an uninstall and when uninstalled the icon was back in the list and when I reinstalled the brown book icon was gone again.

Right click on the file in the Windows Explorer and instead of selecting Open, go down to Open With, which gives you another flyout and in that go down the the bottom and select Choose another app. In the next window click on the box at the bottom "Always use this app to open .epub files" then above scroll around until you find the Calibre e-book viewer and select it and click ok.

Using windows 8 and I think I might be up against the same thing. The default file type .epub is associated Calibre but shows up as unknown program.
