calibre 3.42 problem

Today I updated calibre to 3.42 and something got messed up in my preferences somehow(please bear with me I don't really know what I'm doing here). Anyway I upload via usb with my eink device from my Amazon content and devices page and previously my books automatically opened in calibre and the plug-in did its magic. Today I did this and the kindle for mac opened instead(version 1.17.1)- I really don't want to mess with kindle for mac and if someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I did check apprentice alf/harper but couldn't find anything. I do have my kindle serial number logged in to the plug in preferences. I have been using my eink device serial number INSTEAD of downloading to kindle for mac and not really sure what changed in my config to change this- if that makes any sense

edit: I fixed this by uninstalling and reinstalling kindle for mac(same old version) but I will leave this up in case anyone else runs into this issue
