Supported SD card sizes?
I heard the Kindle only supports SD card memory (not SDHC). So does anyone know if oversized SD cards (those exceeding the specs, >2Gb) would still work with it?

As long as mine shows up today. I will try a Sandisk SDHC 4GB.
And let you know. FYI the Sony will take a 8GB Memory Stick Pro Duo or a 2GB SD. |

3.8GB free on a 4GB Sandisk Ultra II SDHC card. Haven't done much else with it yet

Don't mean to put a dampener on anything, but don't forget that lots of devices (including both the Sony Reader and the Bookeen CyBook) will recognise 4GB cards, but won't handle more than 2GB of data on the card. The test needs to be putting >2GB data on and seeing if the Kindle sees it all.

I will try and load it up with 4GB of Mp3s... And see if I can read them. It did see 3.8GB. Usually devices that can't handle it don't show 3.8GB in the OS. I'll try an 8GB, also. Probably be friday before I get to it however. Turkey Day will take precedence.

Well.. I loaded up 3.6GB on the card via a laptop and it looks ok. The Kindle plays music from it. But there is no way to see the files unless I am missing something. The laptop shows 200MB free on the card and I checked it and it seems fine.
However the Kindle shows 1.1GB free on the card now. So something fishy is going on. I rechecked via the laptop again and it still seems fine. I'll try a 2GB card once I can find one. All mine are 4GB or greater. |

Also bought a Sandisk Ultra II 4GB card for Kindle (arriving next week) and good to know that it at least recognizes the card; hope it is able to read all the content on it

i suspect that if sdhc isn't supported right now, it can be added easily via firmware. i'm using a 4gb sd card but i can try an 8gb sdhc when i get to work in a few hours.

I don't know about just firmware... I'd think the controller needs to support it too.

8gb sdhc seems to be supported just fine
here's your answer. an a-data 8gb sdhc class2 card was recognized instantly, reported 7.5gb free, and the kindle transfered files from the internal memory to the sd card where i was able to read all the transferred files.
and no, the display never changed to say 'sdhc' instead of 'sd' card. and no, i'm not going to satisfy those sceptics who would insist i write to every cell on the card and test read/write ... [g] i somewhat suspected it might work. i have a recording device where the manufacturer originally only said they supported up to 4gb sd and that only from an 'approved' list, but as more and more people found 8gb sdhc cards that worked, they added them to their 'approved cards' list.
