Questions regarding Kindle Voyage

I bought a Kindle Voyage in 2017 because my old PW (with jailbreak) started to act erratically.
It seems its flash memory (?) got some dementia, so I am stuck with the Voyage now.

The firmware is 5.8.7.0.1, it has never been updated or registered, no jailbreak. I upload books via PC/USB and calibre.

While handling is ok I am missing one thing very much but do not know if I am simply a doofus, if the Kindle is not able to offer it or if the PW was only able to do it because there was a jailbreak and some hacks on it (not that I remember any hack for sorting).

I guess it has been asked before since the device is already "old" but despite a search here and on google I did not find the information partly because I am lacking the correct keywords. I apologize in advance.

Settings are to downloaded > books and recent, book list
Firmware is 5.8.7.0.1, no jailbreak.

Instead of always showing the last read book on top of the list and underneath the latest uploaded but not yet read/opened books it shows a list of newly uploaded books in no particular order (maybe the last uploaded to device first? can't say).
Which is kind of useless especially if you upload a bigger number of books.

Is there a way to have the last read book always on top?
The book read before next etc. ?
And new, not opened/read books beneath?

The PW had no problem with that sorting.

2.
Is there a way to get a bigger font size for the book list, settings etc.?
All "newer" Kindles (PW, Voyage) offer bigger font size for ebooks which helps sight impaired users but there is no option to increase the size outside a book.
The old Kindle Keyboard had that option ..

3.
I am a little bit confused by all the zillion Kindles available now. My PW is from 2013 and no longer available.
If question 1 can not be solved I am thinking about buying a PW again but which one? Do PW still offer the sorting option I am looking for?

If your “recent” sort order isn’t behaving itself, the clock on your Kindle may be wrong. Check that both the time and date are correct.

To increase the text size in the user interface, go to “Settings / Device Options / Display Size” and choose the “Large” option.

Time offset was about 12 hours, it is fixed now.
There is no date to set.
To be on the safe side I did a restart.
No change. The last read book is still not on top and there is no visible order.
Books uploaded some days ago are still marked as "new"

There is no display size available anywhere. Or at least I haven't found it.

Most of the menu options don’t appear until you register your Kindle. Register it, update to the current firmware, and all should be fine.

Just fyi, I had to download the update from Amazon and manually install it.

And I swear I must be overlooking it, I still don't see Display Size option. I have bad eyes, I could use it.

I could have sworn that the Voyage had an option to increase the text size in the UI. The menu option I gave above is where it is on my Oasis, but I had a Voyage prior to that and I’m sure it had a similar capability. Perhaps a Voyage owner will be kind enough to assist.

But not PW 10, the new "waterproof" one?

I am reluctant to register and update in case I need to do a jailbreak - somewhere it says a jailbreak is not possible after a firmware update.

So the big questions remain:
would registering and updating fix

1. the problem with "recent"?
and
2. allow a bigger font size in the UI?

The recent sort order issue is without a shadow of a doubt due to an incorrect clock setting on your Kindle. The clock is set when the Kindle connects to Amazon’s servers; I’m afraid I don’t know if there’s any other way to set it.

You probably need to visit the Kindle Developers forum here, particularly, you should make the folder that blocks firmware updates.

Registration status does not affect the ability to jail break. firmware version does. If your current version is not jail breakable, it is unlikely any newer version would be.

HarryT is almost certainly correct that setting the correct time will fix your sorting problem. Setting the time is trivial after jail break and ssh or terminal access installed, so you might as well check whether you can jail break and do that if you can. Otherwise, start the setup and registration process and stop as soon as the date and time are correct. At a minimum, the Voyage will need to have connected to wifi, but maybe that means registration will have to be complete. You might want to disconnect from wifi as soon as possible after that if you do not want it to download cover images for every book you have ever purchased and other clutter.

Even if you manually update to any newer firmware, unless you are able to set the correct date and time, you will very likely still have the sorting problem.

I think there may well be a command you can type into the search box to set the clock - I have a vague memory of such a thing. The dev forum will be able to advise.

I really would just register the Kindle, though. It’s an awful lot easier!

Full reset - register the kindle - update to the latest firmware. Your reading life will improve!

It’s perhaps worth noting that setting the clock won’t instantly fix the recent sort order problem, because all the books will of course still have incorrect timestamps. It should sort itself out over time as you open books, though, because the ones you open will then have the correct timestamp applied.

I can't find such an option in 5.6.1 or 5.8.11

I think amazon decided that a 6" screen doesn't have room for a larger UI font, maybe in part because some languages require more characters than the english equivalent.
