htc u11 android without simcard as ebook reader

This is a "touch phone" I purchased about a year ago and found it too complicated, so I purchase a flip phone and put the touch phone sim card in it with a view of "binning" the touch phone.
However, I have now an opportunity to use it as an ebook reader for an ebook I am developing on my Debian (linux) pc but I do not know anything about ebook readers or touch phone and I am not succeeding.
What I have succeded so far:
I have read the ebook on my PC with Calibre
I have managed to download FBReader on my PC from which I transfered it on the phone
on which it successfully installed and shows an icon I have also transfered the ebook on the phone
What does not work:
The FBReader and the ebook seem to be in different directories and cannot see each other
When tapping the ebook, it is "rendered" by the browser automatically
When tapping FBReader, I can only get the introduction or the request to install.
The directories of the phone were visible on my PC but then I must have done something wrong because they are not visible any more.

Can anyone see something I should be able to fix in this?

Thank you for your help

My suggestion would be to enable wifi, (settings etc.) then use the google app store to install moon+ reader pro. There is a free version.

Depending on the version of android there is a new security feature which means when you plug in the USB cable you need to pull down the google bar at the top of the screen and tap connect to files. This was put in to stop malware being installed if you recharged your phone at a charging station.

Do remember to walk round the phone widdershins three times first. There is no scientific reason why it should make any difference but the pause can sometimes help in identifying the problem.
