Importing database to older version? (3.40 to 3.31)
If I want to move from the binary version of Calibre on the site (currently 3.40 installed on my end) to my linux distros version in the repo (Currently 3.31), would there be any issues?
If it is supported im assuming I would need to use the Export/Import option as opposed to simply pointing the older version at the existing database? Thanks! |

First? Why stick with the outdated Distro version? Ther is a command line you copy from the OFFICIAL Calibre download Linux page.
OK there should be no problem REPLACING the entire Library folder contents or simply starting with a NEW folder. If you want ALL your configurations (PI and other stuff), then Export/Import gets the job done (you may need to use Switch/Create afterwards to point at your desired Library. |

Only real reason would be the ability for the GTK dark theme to apply when using the "CALIBRE_USE_SYSTEM_THEME=1 calibre" command along with qt5ct. Looks good in my VM that I tested it in using the distro package in Pop OS:
https://i.imgur.com/eWHj6Zy.png As far as i'm aware there is no way to make theming work inside of the official version due to it being a container like install right? (no way to export the theme into a location it can be used right?) Currently trying to decide between having the newest version vs having it look like the rest of the system, so just wanted to see if it was even possible to go back without there being any issues first :P |

Going back is in general not recommended, however in this particular case it should work without you needing to do anything. Still make backups before doing anything.

![]() Pop OS seems to be based on Ubuntu, which means the calibre install will be fraught with risk as it usually is, due to the abundance of questionable patches which Debian uses. I rarely check what they are doing, but I think every time I did, I discovered something that they were breaking due to their patches. |
