Whenever an error is made in the syntax for a Calibre library search (e.g. today I accidentally mistyped the "t" resulting in "yiyle:" when I was trying to search for a book by its title), the Calibre search process just hangs for an indefinite time period. My quick-fix has been to terminate and restart Calibre.
Two questions: 1. Are there any keystroke shortcuts that can immediately abort a faulty search request ? 2. Just curious what Calibre is actually doing when the search syntax is invalid, and why Calibre doesn't just immediately generate a null result or error message? Thanks. |

It is not a syntax error since you could have a value in one of your searchable columns that is equal to "yiyle:mytitle". If you have a huge number of books and many Tags, Comments, and custom columns, especially Tag-Like CCs with thousands of tags or with comments CCs with large amounts of text, I could see how it could easily take a very long time to search through all of your metadata for the string "yiyle:mytitle".

Thanks DaltonST. That explains why the process could takes a long time.
Some sort of process-interrupt would then be helpful, when a user realizes they have messed up on a search request. Thanks |

@Rob557 - you must have a humongous amount of metadata, how big is metadata db?
I often type gobbledygook deliberately in the search line to get a blank list, even on my 130K+ book library it comes back almost instantly with nothing in the list. I don't have any limits on search. BR |

Thanks "ilovejedd". The Esc key DOES seem to work to stop the processing ... not immediately (I pushed it multiple times, but probably not necessary) but fairly quickly. THANKS !
I guess sometimes the faulty search process lasts longer than one would expect (when not using the Esc key) because I probably had other applications running at the same time ... so maybe not just related to the size of the library (and I'm an impatient fella sometimes I guess). Thanks all for your help and info on this. |

Also:
The Library must not be on a NAS or share or ACTIVE sync (sync should be paused while using Calibre GUI) |
