preserving DOCX style system

I am sorry - isn't this information just inattention?

Preserving source styles system, when converting from docx, would be highly desirable. Can I achieve it somehow?

For me, common docx>epub conversion output contains recreated styles, named "calibre(1,2,...)" or "block_(1,2,...)"...

@quinta@ebf.cz - You might want to consider alternative DOCX->EPUB conversion tools.

The Mammoth DOCX->HTML converter will preserve the DOCX Styles, via user specified mappings - i.e it's not point-n-click. The Sigil DOCX-Import plugin is a wrapper around the Mammoth library. See ==>> [Plugin] DOCXImport - MobileRead

The Epub-tools add-in for Word can convert DOCX to EPUB and do a pretty good job of preserving styles, it also has other useful and in some cases unique features (e.g Dialogue Checking). See ==>> e-Book Tools: a Word add-in - MobileRead

Thanks for suggestions.

I am trying to break through into DOCXImport. Seems the key there is something called "style map"...

Toxaris may not know that, if you post a msg in the MR ePub-Tools thread I'm pretty sure he will respond and fix it.

Curious -- if you're converting the DOCX to EPUB, and doing a DOCX->DOCX Compatibility convert in Word first fixes your image size issue, why not pre-convert the in-library DOCX file in Word to get rid of the Compatibility Mode state before doing the DOCX->EPUB conversion.

If you need to retain a copy of the original DOCX, either keep it somewhere outside the calibre library folder, or put it in a compressed archive file (e.g. a .7z) and drop that into the Book Details panel (on the right).

Good point of view. Your solution is better then editation of converted epub. Thank you.

However, additional conversion step still means complication. Much better would be to do "something" directly with original DOCX. The problem is somehow related to the way I create my DOCX compatibility mode documents… I just do not know how exactly. Not yet.

That is correct, it is just http://toxaris.nl.

With the conversion in the tools you can set it to retain the stylenames. You can also let it try to create a stylesheet that copies (some of) the styling of the Word styles.
