Book not showing up (again)

I uploaded two books by the same author yesterday, one of which was already there but I had fixed some typos, and now neither of them show up. The files and .sdr directories are there, but they aren't in the book list.

I reported the same problem a while back (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=315600) which eventually fixed itself, no idea how or why. I went through the same sort of process to fix it this time, but with no luck. I've tried just about every possible combination of connecting, disconnecting, restarting, adding manually, removing manually, renaming the file, putting them in /documents, putting them in a subdirectory, updating the cached Calibre metadata on the device, removing the books from Calibre and then adding them again, but nothing seems to help. About the only thing I haven't done yet is sacrificing a chicken.

I chopped the last letter off the author's name and then the books showed up. I deleted them, reinstated the last letter and... they didn't show up. I chopped the last letter off again... and this time they didn't show up. Now nothing I do seems to help.

I assume that the Kindle's internal DB is somehow screwed up. Is there any way to make it rebuild the DB short of flattening it and reloading 4000+ books? Or does anyone have any other ideas what I could do?

Did you try conversion (from azw3 to azw3)? Sometimes that helps.

Hmm, it didn't. But I uploaded some other books, and they were fine... then I reuploaded the problematic ones, and suddenly they were fine too...

This is the second time this has happened, and both times it's just fixed itself apparently spontaneously. It's really annoying not knowing what causes it, or what to do to fix it when it happens!

Probably a silly question but are you waiting long enough for the kindle to process and add the book? I have over 4,300 books on mine. Whenever I add any books with calibre, after it does its metadata updating song and dance I use calibre's Eject this device and then I need to wait a few minutes before the book appears.

It's unfortunate that the kindle doesn't provide any feedback about being busy processing the newly added book(s).

Yes, the library scan to add new books does take a while with a large library. I have close to 10,000 books on my 32GB Oasis and when I add new books it can take up to 20m for them to appear in the library list.

Does the Oasis slow down with that many books either opening from wake, page turns or anything else noticeable?

I can't say that I've noticed anything else other than adding books.

The only other thing that's slower are searches. Everything else is fine.

No, I'm used to the delay. This is a case where they don't show up no matter how long I wait.
