Greek fonts can not be changed

Hi, dear friends and Happy New Year. I recently bought my new Kobo Clara HD and I am very satisfied. My only problem has to do with the greek fonts. They appear only in one type, and properly. Fortunately, they can be enlarged but they seem a bit "pale". Furthermore, it is impossible to change the font or to increase the weight. I installed other types of Greek fonts with no result. Thanks in advance for any suggestion |

If You want increase the weight of custom fonts You can patch Your Kobo. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=313422 Among patches there is one of my favorites: "Freedom to advanced fonts control" which let You choose the weight of all font, not only a sub set of system fonts. If You decide to patch, of course, there are many other possibilities, for example enable rotation on all devices (not only on Forma) is very useful in my opinion, or custom font sizes ecc. The alternative is to weight Your custom font and then download in Your Kobo, in this forum there are some tread about it (using font forge or other systems), but I am not able to do it, and patches are a more complete solution because You can choose each time the desired weight. @ps67 Thanks for your advice, as a newbie, I have to think a bit about installing the patch I have copied many fonts to the device, and some of them bold, but the Greek fonts appear always the same when I change them (sth similar to Times New Roman). The text is readable, OK, but I was looking for the best result. Regards |

There are a couple of things I can think that could cause the problem, it will help to know what format the books you are reading are in. (i.e. KePub synced direct from Kobo or sideloaded with Calibre's KoboTouchExtended driver, or ePubs sideloaded without using Calibre or using Calibre's default KoboTouch driver.) The KePub reader will try to substitute any missing glyphs in the selected font with glyphs from another font, so if the fonts you have sideloaded don't have Greek glyphs then you will probably see glyphs from one of the standard fonts, which could explain why they don't change. The ePub reader allows the publisher to override the font from the book's stylesheet, which prevents that font being changed from the device. If that is the case then you would need to change the book's stylesheet to fix the problem. |

Attached is a very simple ePub book that displays the following sentence in regular, italic, bold, and bold italic styles: Quote:
If you can't change the font in this book, then something else is going on. | |

@GeoffR The problem has been solved! I am grateful for your advice. I had not installed the KoboTouchExtended driver. Since I did, the greek books, then installed through Calibre, are properly displayed. The only thing that does not work is the increase/decrease the Weigh, but I don' t care, I had never used it in English books. Thanks again! |
