Unsuccessful conversion with image on page

I'm converting an ODT file to EPUB. One page has an image with a caption that is less than a third of the page in width and height. The image in the output EPUB is truncated and does not have text flowing around it, as does the original. Is there something I can do to make the output look good?

I should have said that the output EPUB file was viewed on a PC using Edge. I transferred the EPUB file to my Android phone and it was much better. It's pretty good in Moon+ Reader Pro and slightly less perfect in Cool Reader. For example, links don't work in Cool Reader.

I'm surprised in the variations among EPUB readers. Is this common for "commercially" published documents? Or am I just seeing defects in the Calibre conversion?

What you are seeing is pretty common. If you want to have a document with even moderately complex layout look the same on different renderers, you will likely need to have different versions of the epub tweaked for those renderers. Been there, done that, worn my teeth down.

You won't want to think about the issues when trying to make a document look the same on an epub2 renderer and an epub3 renderer. Dante said it best: "Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate".

I'm currently distributing the newsletter in PDF. No one has asked for EPUB; I just thought it would be a good idea. I doubt that many people are interested in reading the newsletter on a small screen. I'm not inclined to make a big investment at this time. Maybe I should wait a year and see if the situation has improved. What do you think?
